RC Lens abandon Yann Gboho move over Toulouse’s high asking price

Yann Gboho emerged as a late summer target for RC Lens as the club sought an explosive left-sided attacker, but the deal ultimately fell apart due to Toulouse FC’s steep valuation.

With only one year remaining on his contract, Gboho appeared set for a reasonable transfer fee, yet Toulouse’s determination to maximise their return complicated negotiations.

Despite the player’s willingness to leave, Toulouse demanded around 15 million euros, a figure Lens deemed excessive for someone who could negotiate freely with other clubs in just four months. Faced with such inflexibility, the Artois side withdrew from the race, allowing Coventry City to step in.

The English club eventually secured Gboho for 12 million euros plus 3 million in bonuses, a deal confirmed on Friday after post-Brexit work visa delays. For Lens, operating under a strict 8 million euro spending cap imposed by general manager Benjamin Parrot, matching British financial power was impossible.

Instead, Lens turned their attention to Junior Kadile, signed from Servette Geneva at a fee aligned with their budget. The recruitment team believe Kadile can deliver on the pitch while respecting the club’s financial discipline.
