Tidiam Gomis could be included in Patrick Vieira’s Senegal squad for the first time when the coach announces his selection on Thursday.

The 20-year-old RB Leipzig winger has emerged as a possible surprise addition after facing Manchester City in the Champions League, with Vieira understood to be particularly interested in his profile.

Gomis, formerly of Stade Malherbe de Caen, has made an encouraging start to life in Germany. His form is believed to have caught the attention of the Senegal manager, who is reshaping his attacking options before the Lions of Teranga face Sudan twice on 12 and 16 November in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers.

According to Match360, Vieira is seriously considering selecting Gomis for the first time. The winger, who has represented France at youth level, is reported to have expressed a desire to play for the country of his origins.

That possibility has gained momentum following his rapid progress in recent months.

Gomis joined RB Leipzig from Caen and has gradually established himself as one of the German club’s attacking discoveries. He has scored four goals and provided two assists in 13 appearances this season, adapting quickly to the Bundesliga.

His development has also been evident in European competition. Gomis scored his first Champions League goal against Real Madrid at the Santiago-Bernabeu and was given another opportunity to test himself against elite opposition when RB Leipzig played Manchester City on Wednesday.

His pace, direct running and ability to beat opponents one-on-one are qualities that could appeal to Vieira. A first Senegal call-up would also allow the national team to begin integrating a young player who has been monitored for several years.

Senegal’s attacking options

Gomis is being considered at a time when Senegal’s attacking department is facing uncertainty.

Vieira is expected to welcome back Sadio Mane, but Ismaila Sarr and Abdallah Sima are unavailable. There are also doubts over Assane Diao, Habib Diarra and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye.

Those absences could lead to significant changes in the Senegal attack for the forthcoming matches.

Match360 also reports that Vieira is considering recalling Dion Lopy, who has not played for Senegal since March 2025. Brest winger Pathe Mboup is another player understood to be under consideration.

Gomis’s inclusion could come at the expense of Mamadou Diakhon or Issa Soumare, although Vieira still has a number of established attacking options available. They include Iliman Ndiaye, Nicolas Jackson, Boulaye Dia and Ibrahim Mbaye.

However, Gomis’s place in the squad is not guaranteed. While Senegal’s interest in the RB Leipzig player appears genuine, Vieira must still decide whether to make the move during this international window.
