RB Leipzig are set to pull off another notable transfer, with the club reportedly closing in on the signing of highly rated Dutch-Nigerian winger Ayodele Thomas.
According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the Saxony-based side are very close to finalising a deal for the PSV Eindhoven youngster, who is regarded as one of the club’s brightest homegrown prospects.
The 18-year-old left winger is nearing the final months of his contract at PSV, which expires at the end of the season, leaving the Eredivisie leaders with a final opportunity to secure a transfer fee during the current window.
Leipzig are believed to have presented the Dutch under-19 international with an offer described as “one he can hardly refuse.”
PSV are said to have made a late push to convince Thomas to extend his stay in Eindhoven, but the appeal of Bundesliga football and Leipzig’s clear sporting project appear to have swayed the player towards an immediate move. The chance to take the next step in his development this winter has reportedly played a key role in his decision.
Leipzig’s pursuit was not without competition, as the winger had attracted interest from fellow Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart. However, Leipzig ultimately won the race, with their overall package proving more convincing than those of their domestic rivals.
