RB Leipzig are seeking to re-sign France international of DR Congo descent Christopher Nkunku in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old, who joined Chelsea in summer 2023 has struggled to command a starting role at the club, particularly under manager Enzo Maresca.
Nkunku has yet to adapt to the defensive midfield role during training sessions, as coach Maresca tries to his evaluate his abilities in a new position at the club.
However, Nkunku prefers to play closer to the attack, but it seems there is no room for him up front. The Blues’ manager does not see the 27-year-old Frenchman as a central striker, especially after the signings of João Pedro and Liam Delap.
The French-Congolese will now prioritize a move away from the Stamford Bridge in an attempt to join a club that could offer him his preferred position.
Nkunku, who has 14 appearances for Chelsea currently has a contract that runs until summer 2029.
The forward has been linked with Premier League sides, including Arsenal and Manchester United, however, a return to Germany, and his former club, RB Leipzig, cannot be ruled out.
Per reports, Chelsea and RB Leipzig are currently in talks over a deal to re-sign Nkunku. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is not completely shut off to a move to his former club, however, for now, he is prioritising other destinations.
