RB Leipzig are edging closer to completing the signing of French centre-back Abdoul Kone from Stade Reims after reaching a basic agreement with the player.

According to Sky, the Bundesliga side has agreed personal terms in principle with Kone, with a long-term contract expected to run until 2031.

Discussions between Leipzig and Stade Reims are also said to be advancing positively, with both clubs believed to be nearing a full agreement.

Despite the progress, Leipzig are not planning to bring the defender to Germany immediately. The current proposal would see Kone remain at Stade Reims for the remainder of the season before moving to Saxony in the summer.

The transfer is expected to involve a fixed fee in the region of 16 to 18 million euros, with additional performance-related bonuses potentially included in the deal. While negotiations are still ongoing, the structure of the agreement is reportedly close to being finalised.

Interest from other foreign clubs has slightly delayed the process, but RB Leipzig are keen to move swiftly to secure Kone’s signature and conclude the transfer as soon as possible.
