Rayo Vallecano’s Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin faces an anxious wait to discover the extent of a knee injury sustained during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla in La Liga.
Mumin was forced off the pitch before the final whistle after suffering a sprain to his left knee.
Initial medical examinations indicate the injury could be serious, though further tests are required to confirm the exact nature of the problem.
Speaking after the match, Rayo Vallecano head coach Iñigo Pérez acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Mumin’s condition.
“Mumin is still waiting for more specific tests to be carried out in order to make a precise diagnosis,” he said.
There are growing fears that the 25-year-old could be sidelined for the remainder of the season, with reports suggesting the injury could involve the anterior cruciate ligament.
If confirmed, the Ghanaian international would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines, ruling him out of the upcoming international break with the Black Stars.
Mumin has been a key figure for Rayo Vallecano this season, featuring in 25 matches across all competitions.
His impressive performances have yielded two goals and one assist, earning him a regular starting place under Pérez since the start of 2025.
The defender’s injury comes at a crucial point in the campaign, with Rayo Vallecano battling for position in La Liga.
The club is now bracing for the outcome of further medical evaluations, which are expected to determine the timeline for his recovery.
