Rapid 1923 sign Burkina Faso midfielder Chec Bebel Doumbia from Genoa on loan

Burkina Faso midfielder Chec Bebel Doumbia has joined Romanian club FC Rapid 1923 from Genoa on loan, completing a move that takes the 18-year-old from Italy’s Serie A to the SuperLiga.

Doumbia plays in central midfield and switches clubs on 18 August. He leaves Genoa, where he was part of a squad competing in Italy’s top division, to continue his career in Romania with Rapid 1923.

The move gives Doumbia experience of a different senior football environment after his time with Genoa. Rapid 1923 compete in Romania’s SuperLiga, while Genoa operate in Serie A, creating a change in league and club setting for the teenager.

Doumbia’s listed market value is €400,000, although the transfer is recorded as a loan rather than a permanent move. No permanent transfer fee is attached to the move.

At 18, Doumbia becomes part of Rapid 1923’s midfield options. His role is centred in the middle of the pitch, where he will join a squad competing in Romania’s top flight.

The transfer also represents a move abroad for the Burkina Faso-born player, with Doumbia now continuing his development in Romanian football after his spell in Italy. He joins Rapid 1923 as a central midfielder and remains contracted to Genoa for the duration of the loan arrangement.
