Raphinha is expected to return to Barcelona’s group training on Thursday after recovering from the injury that ruled him out of this week’s matches against Getafe and Galatasaray.
The Brazil forward is set to take part in at least part of the session with his team-mates, according to Sport. His return will give Barcelona a potential boost before their La Liga visit to Real Betis on Saturday.
Raphinha hopes to be fit enough to feature against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but the final decision will be made by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. The 29-year-old is likely to travel with the squad to Andalusia if he feels no pain and Flick decides he is ready to play.
Raphinha sustained the problem while on international duty with Brazil during the recent break. Flick confirmed before the match against Getafe that the forward would miss both of Barcelona’s fixtures against Getafe and Galatasaray.
“Raphinha will miss the next two matches against Getafe and Galatasaray,” Flick said at his pre-match news conference.
“The player still does not feel comfortable in his right leg because of the injury he suffered with the Brazil national team.”
Flick added: “It is clear that it is not a serious injury, but it requires attention because of his history of injuries, and we need to manage his situation carefully.”
Raphinha has played eight matches for Barcelona this season, scoring 14 goals and providing three assists. He is the top scorer in La Liga.
His return to training does not guarantee that he will be involved against Real Betis, with Barcelona expected to assess his condition before deciding whether to include him in the matchday squad.
The forward’s recovery comes after a short period on the sidelines in which he missed the two fixtures identified by Flick. Barcelona will now monitor his response to training before determining whether he can contribute in Saturday’s league game.
The club’s decision will therefore depend on both Raphinha’s physical condition and Flick’s assessment of the risk involved in selecting him. If he remains free of discomfort, he could be available for the trip to Real Betis.
