Barcelona forward Raphinha has identified Federico Valverde and Vinicius Junior as the players who drive Real Madrid, rather than focusing on Kylian Mbappe, despite the Frenchman’s impressive form for the Spanish club.
Speaking before El Clasico, Raphinha said Vinicius’ absence would not necessarily make the match easier for Barcelona. The Brazilian winger is unavailable for the meeting, but his international team-mate believes Real Madrid have enough depth to compensate for his loss.
“I cannot say that his absence will be a good thing for us, because Real Madrid ultimately have many players capable of deciding matches,” Raphinha said, in comments published by Tribuna.
“It is true that Vini will not be there, but there are other players who can occupy his position and make the difference in a match of this size.”
Raphinha said Real Madrid’s squad contained several players able to take on greater responsibility, making the task facing Barcelona difficult even without Vinicius.
Praise for Valverde’s flexibility
The Barcelona player gave particular recognition to Uruguay midfielder Valverde, highlighting his ability to perform effectively in different positions.
“Fede can move forward from midfield, while he also gives the team many options when he plays as a full-back,” Raphinha said.
“In the end, he is an incredible player. He performs at a very high level in midfield and also excels when he plays out wide.”
Raphinha’s comments focused on the work Valverde and Vinicius provide for Real Madrid, regardless of where they are deployed on the pitch. He described the pair as the team’s main source of energy and effort.
“Fede and Vini are the driving force of Real Madrid. They are the type of players who put in a great deal of effort and work for their team, regardless of the position they play in,” he said.
The comments come before a meeting of major significance for both clubs. Barcelona and Real Madrid remain involved in a direct rivalry, with El Clasico often decided by individual readiness and tactical details as much as by the quality of the players available.
Although Vinicius will not feature, Raphinha’s assessment was that Real Madrid retain numerous alternatives capable of changing the contest. His praise for Valverde also underlined the importance of players who can influence the match from more than one position.
