Raphael Onyedika joins Eintracht Frankfurt in €9m move from Club Brugge

Nigeria midfielder Raphael Onyedika has joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Club Brugge for €9m, completing a move to the Bundesliga club on 2 August 2026.

The 25-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract with Frankfurt until 30 June 2031. He arrives in Germany after four seasons with Club Brugge, where he established himself in Belgian football following his move from Danish side FC Midtjylland.

Onyedika’s final season in Belgium ended with further silverware. He was part of the Club Brugge side that won the Belgian title and Belgian Super Cup in 2025-26, having also helped the club win the Belgian Cup in 2025. His honours with Brugge include two Belgian championships, with the first coming in 2023-24.

The Imo-born player is a right-footed midfielder who operates in the defensive role. He is 1.84m tall and joined Club Brugge from Midtjylland on 28 August 2022 in a transfer worth €9.5m. His move to Frankfurt represents a return to the German-speaking football market after developing in Denmark and spending the past part of his senior career in Belgium.

Onyedika began his time in Denmark with Midtjylland’s under-19 team after arriving from Nigerian club FC Ebedei in 2019. He moved into Midtjylland’s senior set-up in 2020 and spent part of the 2020-21 season on loan at FC Fredericia. He returned to Midtjylland at the end of that loan before making his move to Club Brugge the following summer.

His early career in Denmark included winning the Danish Youth Championship with Midtjylland’s under-19 side in 2021 and the Danish Cup with the senior team in 2021-22. He was also part of the Midtjylland side that finished as Danish runners-up in 2022.

The transfer gives Onyedika a new domestic challenge after a spell in which he collected major honours in Belgium. The Nigeria international joins Frankfurt on a deal lasting until 30 June 2031, with the €9m transfer completed on 2 August 2026.
