Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are working on a deal to sign Senegalese defender Nobel Mendy.
The 20-year-old defender was previously linked with a move to Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven, but that deal collapsed over an administrative issue. PSV subsequently turned their attention to other defensive targets, including Killian Sildillia and Yarek Gasiorowski.
Rangers have now stepped in and agreed a €3 million transfer fee with Real Betis, with the deal set to include a 20% sell-on clause. Mendy is expected to sign a four-year contract with Russell Martin’s side.
The young defender joined Betis’ youth setup from formative club Paris FC two years ago and has since developed into a promising prospect.
His move comes as Rangers prepare to face Viktoria Plzen in the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie, holding a commanding 3-0 advantage from the first leg.
