Rangers go all in for Fares Ghedjemis after stunning season in Italy

Rangers have intensified their pursuit of Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis as Derek McInnes continues his search for a game-changing wide forward ahead of the new Scottish Premiership season.

The Ibrox club have been active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their attacking options, with Ghedjemis emerging as one of their leading targets following an outstanding campaign in Italy.

According to Sky Sports journalist Luca Bendoni, Rangers are pushing to complete a deal for the 23-year-old Algerian international, who enjoyed a breakthrough season by scoring 15 goals in Serie B to help Frosinone secure promotion to the Italian top flight.

McInnes has made no secret of his desire to add a “difference maker” to his squad, and Ghedjemis’ goalscoring record from the wing makes him an attractive option as Rangers seek to reclaim the league title.

The club have also been linked with Chelsea youngster Amario Cozier-Duberry and a return for Vaclav Cerny, but Ghedjemis has now moved into the spotlight as Rangers accelerate their recruitment drive.

Breakthrough season attracts Scottish interest

Although not yet a household name across Europe, Ghedjemis has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past year.

His 15-goal haul was instrumental in Frosinone’s successful promotion push and also earned him a place in Algeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

While his involvement at the tournament was limited to a brief substitute appearance, the call-up marked another milestone for the winger, who has already earned two senior international caps.

His pace, direct running and eye for goal have made him one of the most sought-after young wide players in Italy, with Rangers hoping those qualities can add a new dimension to their attack.

The departure of Oliver Antman has also created space in McInnes’ squad, increasing the need for reinforcements on the flanks.

£6m fee could test Rangers

A move for Ghedjemis is unlikely to come cheaply.

The Algerian was heavily linked with Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic during the January transfer window, with reports indicating that Frosinone accepted an offer worth around £6 million.

However, the winger chose to remain in Italy to help the club complete its promotion mission—a decision that ultimately paid off.

Now Rangers are hoping to succeed where Celtic fell short by convincing Ghedjemis to make the move to Glasgow.

Any deal is expected to require a fee close to the £6 million previously agreed with Celtic, but Rangers appear prepared to pursue the transfer as they continue reshaping McInnes’ squad.
