Glasgow Rangers have officially announced the contract extension of Nigerian international Leon Balogun for the 2024/25 season. Despite a less-than-stellar season, the Scottish club has shown its continued faith in the 35-year-old defender by extending his stay at Ibrox.

Balogun, who first joined Rangers in 2020, played a pivotal role in the club’s triumphant 2020/21 campaign and their Scottish Cup victory in 2021/22.

After a brief stint with Queen’s Park Rangers in 2022, he returned to Glasgow last summer, adding depth and experience to the squad.

Reacting to the news of his extension, Balogun expressed his gratitude and ambition:

“I am very, very happy and privileged to be able to extend my contract at a club like Rangers. I’ve said in the past that I wish I had gotten here earlier in my career because it fuels the drive to continually succeed.

I want to win more trophies here and win more titles. As a player, you want to make sure you are part of the history of this club because there are not many places in the world where there is a greater honor or a greater privilege.”

While Balogun’s recent season may not have been his best, with just 19 appearances in all competitions, Rangers remain committed to his contributions on and off the pitch.

His leadership and experience are seen as vital components for the club’s aspirations in the upcoming season.

Balogun’s market value is currently estimated at €150,000, but his worth to the Rangers goes beyond mere financial metrics.

His return and continued presence at the club underscore his importance to the team’s structure and future successes.

As Rangers prepare for the new season, Balogun’s experience and determination will be crucial in their quest for more titles.

The club and its fans will be hoping that the Nigerian defender can recapture his best form and help lead the team to further glory.
