Rangers beat Celtic again in a week as Hitham Hassan features from the bench

Rangers defeated Celtic 1-0 at Celtic Park to claim their second victory over their rivals in the space of a week, moving to within two points of the Scottish league leaders.

The result lifted Rangers to 16 points in second place after seven matches. Celtic remain top on 18 points, having suffered another defeat by Rangers in a different competition just days earlier.

Celtic started strongly and thought they had taken the lead in the fifth minute when Trusty found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Kieran Tierney then came close to opening the scoring in the 29th minute, only for his effort to strike the crossbar.

Rangers went ahead three minutes later. Ryan Naderi followed up to score after Celtic goalkeeper saved Djeidi Gassama’s shot.

Gassama almost doubled Rangers’ advantage when he went through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his attempt came back off the post.

Hitham Hassan entered the match in the second half, replacing Duran in the 70th minute for Celtic.

The winger created danger with a number of crosses after coming on, although none of his team-mates were able to turn them into goals.

Rangers held on to secure victory and complete their second win against Celtic within seven days, with the two successes coming in separate competitions.

Celtic’s next match will be against Motherwell on Sunday, 11 October, after the international break.
