Ramy Bensebaini’s penalty double sparks Dortmund comeback win
Borussia Dortmund overturned a two-goal deficit to defeat Hamburg 3-2, with Ramy Bensebaini emerging as the decisive figure after scoring twice from the penalty spot.
Trailing at the break and struggling to find momentum, Dortmund turned to Bensebaini at half-time in a move that would ultimately change the course of the match.
The Algerian defender made an immediate impact, demonstrating composure and precision from the spot to pull his side back into contention.
Hamburg had appeared in control during the opening period, building a two-goal advantage that left the hosts with a mountain to climb.
Dortmund, however, responded with renewed urgency after the interval, pressing higher and forcing their opponents into errors.
Bensebaini’s first penalty reduced the deficit and shifted the momentum firmly in Dortmund’s favour. As the pressure intensified, Hamburg found it increasingly difficult to contain the attacking waves.
The equaliser followed from another spot-kick, again calmly converted by Bensebaini, bringing Dortmund level and energising the crowd.
With the contest finely balanced, Dortmund continued to push forward in search of a winner. Their persistence paid off when they completed the turnaround, securing a 3-2 victory that had seemed unlikely at half-time.
Bensebaini’s contribution proved decisive, with his brace not only restoring parity but also laying the foundation for the comeback.
The goals take his tally to six in all competitions this season, underlining his growing importance to the side.
The result marks a significant turnaround for Dortmund, who showed resilience and character to recover from a difficult first half.
For Hamburg, it will be a match defined by missed opportunities, having failed to hold on to a commanding lead.
In the end, it was Bensebaini’s calmness under pressure that separated the sides, ensuring Dortmund walked away with all three points after a dramatic encounter.
