Algeria defender Ramy Bensebaini returns to Borussia Dortmund team training after injury
Algeria international Ramy Bensebaini has returned to Borussia Dortmund team training after recovering from injury, providing a major boost for both the German club and the Desert Foxes.
The defender resumed training alongside Nico Schlotterbeck on Wednesday, a day after Dortmund’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Villarreal.
Their return gives Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac encouraging news as he looks to strengthen his defensive options.
Bensebaini returns after rib injury
Bensebaini had been sidelined since suffering a bruised rib during Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on 22 August.
The Algerian defender has missed recent matches but has now taken an important step towards his return to competitive action by rejoining full team training.
His recovery will be welcomed by Algerian football supporters, particularly with the experienced defender remaining an important figure for the national team.
Schlotterbeck also back
Germany international Schlotterbeck has also resumed training with his Dortmund teammates.
The defender suffered a serious ankle injury during the 2026 World Cup in June and subsequently missed Borussia Dortmund’s entire pre-season programme.
His return, alongside Bensebaini, significantly improves Kovac’s defensive options ahead of a demanding period for the Bundesliga club.
Defensive boost for Dortmund
Dortmund’s 3-2 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League provided a positive result on Tuesday, and the return of two important defenders has added to the club’s encouraging week.
While it remains unclear when Bensebaini and Schlotterbeck will be ready to return to match action, their participation in team training suggests progress in their respective recoveries.
