Ramy Bensebaini likely out for rest of Bundesliga season

Borussia Dortmund are preparing to finish the Bundesliga season without Ramy Bensebaini, as the defender continues to struggle with a foot injury.

Head coach Niko Kovac made it clear at Wednesday’s press conference that he no longer expects the Algerian to feature in the final two league games. “It’s not working for Ramy. He’s still in pain in his foot,” the coach explained, confirming that the left-back will definitely miss Friday night’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Kovac added that a return in the last match away to Werder Bremen is also highly unlikely, effectively signalling an early end to Bensebaini’s Bundesliga campaign.

“I personally believe that nothing will come of the next game in Bremen either, so that’s it for him in the Bundesliga for now,” he said, underlining the medical team’s cautious approach. Dortmund do not want to take any risks with the defender’s health in the final stretch of the season.

Bensebaini has made 21 appearances, scored five goals, and assisted two in the Bundesliga this season.
