Ramadan Sobhi to appeal doping ban with new evidence
Ramadan Sobhi, the prominent Pyramids and former Egypt international player, is facing a four-year suspension after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne accepted an appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The CAS decision overturned an earlier acquittal by the Egyptian anti-doping body, which had previously found no evidence of wrongdoing. In his first comments, Sobhi’s lawyer Hani Zahran said, “We emphasize that the case isn’t closed. We will file an appeal with the Swiss Federal Court within the legal deadline, and we have strong grounds for this challenge.”
Zahran explained that the legal team is preparing a comprehensive case focusing on procedural and fairness issues in the CAS process, not on the facts themselves.
He added, “We trust we have strong and reasonable grounds for appeal, and we’ll submit them in time.”
The lengthy legal struggle began after routine testing raised suspicions of sample tampering, a claim initially dismissed by the Egyptian committee but revived with the CAS ruling.
Sobhi’s reputation and career now hang in the balance, but his lawyer insists, “Sobhi remains steadfast in his innocence and will fight to the last legal option.”
