Ramadan Sobhi handed four-year ban after doping test controversy
The international sports court “CAS” has suspended Pyramids FC and Egypt international Ramadan Sobhi for four years after ruling he tampered with his sample during an anti-doping test.
This development comes after months of investigation and marks one of the most challenging chapters in Sobhi’s career.
The incident dates back to a random test following a 2021 CAF Confederation Cup match. The initial sample revealed abnormal readings, including unusually high water content and inconsistent physiological markers. The CAS-accredited lab flagged possible external interference, prompting a mandatory hearing with Sobhi and his club representatives.
Although Sobhi maintained his innocence, blaming possible health factors, the investigative panel found clear evidence of tampering in line with laboratory reports. As a result, CAS finalized a four-year suspension and annulled all results from the contested period.
Sources close to Sobhi describe him as “shocked” by the verdict, which he plans to appeal. Pyramids FC issued a brief statement expressing respect for official decisions while vowing legal support, including an international legal team, to fight for Sobhi’s future in the sport. The football world now watches to see if his ban might be overturned on appeal.
