A highly anticipated Botola Pro Inwi encounter between Raja Club Athletic and AS FAR descended into chaos on Thursday, as scenes of violence and vandalism overshadowed the match at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Videos widely shared on social media captured disturbing moments of supporters clashing with security personnel, damaging stadium property, and engaging in confrontations with rival fans. The unrest quickly drew widespread condemnation online, with many calling for tougher measures to curb repeated incidents of hooliganism in Moroccan football.

Authorities responded swiftly, with the public prosecutor in Rabat ordering the detention of 136 individuals linked to the disturbances.

On the pitch, AS FAR secured a 2-1 victory over Raja in what was expected to be a high-profile showdown between two of the league’s biggest clubs. However, the result was quickly overshadowed by escalating tensions in the stands following the final whistle.

Moroccan authorities have continued to tighten security measures in response to such incidents, relying in part on video evidence to identify and apprehend those involved in acts of violence and vandalism.

The previous disturbances at the same venue, notably during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Final, when clashes between Senegalese supporters after a controversial moment in the game. That incident led to multiple arrests and prison sentences, highlighting the growing concern over fan behaviour at major fixtures.
