Raja Casablanca part ways with Nasreddine Nabi after dispute over recruitment

Raja Club Athletic have decided to part ways with Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi following weeks of tension between the head coach and the club’s sporting director Mathias.

Raja president Jawad Ziyat informed Nabi’s agent of the decision after receiving a recommendation from Mathias.

The Moroccan giants are now preparing to reorganise their technical staff and make plans for the next stage of the club’s project.

Raja have not yet issued an official announcement confirming Nabi’s departure.

Recruitment disagreements fuelled split

The decision follows a period of growing friction between Nabi and the sporting director, with disagreements over squad management and recruitment failing to be resolved.

Nabi has insisted that the differences were professional and centred on contrasting views about how the team should be built and managed.

Speaking to SNRTnews, the Tunisian explained that he disagreed with Mathias over the club’s transfer policy.

“I don’t see eye to eye with Raja’s sporting director. I disagree with his overall policy and how he handles transfers,” Nabi said.

The former AS FAR coach said he had asked Raja’s management to recruit players capable of strengthening the squad at the highest level.

However, he was unhappy with some of the players eventually brought to the club.

“I asked management to recruit high-caliber talent, but they ultimately signed players I had no use for,” he added.

Benoun situation added to tensions

Nabi also identified the handling of veteran defender Badr Benoun as an important moment in the deterioration of his relationship with the sporting director.

According to the coach, Raja executives had considered ending their association with the Moroccan defender.

Nabi opposed that position and argued for Benoun to remain because of his experience and commitment to the club.

The disagreement over the defender further exposed the differences between the coach and sporting department over how the squad should be managed.

Raja prepare for new technical direction

Despite the breakdown in their working relationship, Nabi’s departure is understood to have been based on professional differences rather than a personal dispute.

The Tunisian leaves Raja as the club prepares to restructure its technical setup and determine a new direction.
