Raja Casablanca were held to a 1–1 draw by Union Touarga on Sunday evening at the Stade de la Médina in Rabat, as the two sides faced off on matchday nine of the Botola Pro.
Both teams showed attacking intent in the opening period and created several opportunities, but a combination of missed chances and solid defending ensured the first half ended without a goal.
The match took a dramatic turn late in the first half when Raja Casablanca were reduced to ten men. In the second minute of first-half stoppage time (45+2), Mohamed Boulksout was shown a red card following a dangerous challenge on Union Touarga’s Abdelhay Foursi, leaving the visitors with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the contest.
Union Touarga made their advantage count shortly after the restart. In the 52nd minute, Younes Dahmani found the back of the net to put the hosts in front, sparking celebrations among the home supporters.
Raja Casablanca, however, responded almost immediately despite being a man down. Just four minutes later, new signing Oyoyosi Mathias announced himself in style by scoring the equalizer in the 56th minute, restoring parity and keeping Raja firmly in the contest.
The score remained unchanged until the final whistle, as both sides battled for a decisive goal but were unable to break the deadlock again.
Following the draw, Raja Casablanca moved to 16 points and stayed in fourth place on the league table, while Union Touarga remain second from bottom in 15th position with 6 points. It is also worth noting that Raja Casablanca still have a postponed fixture against Renaissance Berkane, which could prove significant in their league campaign.
