Rafiq Lamptey: England-Ghana midfielder joins Chesterfield on loan from Millwall U21

Teenage midfielder Rafiq Lamptey has joined Chesterfield on loan from Millwall U21, giving the League Two side a fresh option in central midfield for the 2026-27 campaign.

The 19-year-old England-Ghana player arrives at the SMH Group Stadium on a temporary deal that runs until the end of the season, with his registration returning to Millwall U21 on 31 May 2027. Lamptey is contracted to Chesterfield until that date.

Lamptey moves after two seasons in Millwall’s youth set-up, having previously been recruited by the Championship club from non-league side Harrow Borough on a free transfer in August 2024. His switch to Chesterfield marks his first loan spell away from Millwall.

Operating primarily as a central midfielder, Lamptey has already sampled senior knockout football, featuring in the FA Cup where he registered an assist in a 24-minute appearance. He has also been involved in Championship play-off, EFL Cup and Premier League Cup squads, underlining his exposure to a range of competitive environments despite his age.

Born on 24 August 2006, Lamptey is eligible for both England and Ghana and is listed with dual nationality. His move to Chesterfield offers him the chance to gain regular first-team experience in the Football League for the first time.

Lamptey’s loan to Chesterfield from Millwall U21 is confirmed for the 2026-27 season, with the agreement set to end on 31 May 2027.
