Rafik Belghali’s European suitors held back by Hellas Verona valuation

The summer transfer window is nearing its conclusion, but Rafik Belghali remains at Hellas Verona despite attracting interest from a number of leading European clubs.

The 24-year-old Algeria international has yet to secure a move away from the Italian club, even though his performances have generated considerable attention in recent months. His situation was first reported exclusively by Africafoot.

AS Roma were among the clubs to make the strongest initial approach. The Italian capital club opened talks over a possible deal and appeared to be seriously considering signing the defender. However, Roma eventually ended their interest and chose to pursue Argentina international Nahuel Molina instead.

Olympique de Marseille then emerged as another potential destination. The French club was impressed by Belghali’s qualities and saw the Algerian full-back as a player who could strengthen their squad. Negotiations, however, failed to reach an agreement, with Verona’s demands again proving the main obstacle.

Hellas Verona are asking for €15m to allow Belghali to leave and have firmly rejected the possibility of a loan deal. That position has discouraged interested clubs, including several major Italian sides. Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Napoli had all expressed an interest in the player.

According to Maghreb-Foot, Verona’s asking price is currently the central issue preventing a transfer. The clubs watching Belghali, including Olympique de Marseille, are either unwilling or unable to pay the €15m required to complete the deal.

The impasse is frustrating for Belghali, who wants to take the next step in his career. The defender is hoping to join a major European club, either in Italy or elsewhere, after making a strong impression during his first experience in the Italian league.

Belghali arrived at Verona late, at a particularly difficult time for the club, but managed to establish himself in a side that was struggling. His displays allowed him to attract attention and helped place him on the radar of several high-profile teams.

With the transfer window close to shutting, the Algeria international’s future remains dependent on whether Hellas Verona change their position. Unless the Italian club lowers its €15m demand or becomes willing to consider a loan, Belghali’s departure is likely to remain on hold.

Hellas Verona are due to begin their Serie B campaign shortly with a match against Ascoli. Betting company 1xbet lists Verona as favourites for the fixture, with the club priced at 1.60 to win. A draw is listed at 3.60, while Ascoli are priced at 4.65.
