Rafik Belghali: Algeria defender at Hellas Verona linked with Venezia move

Rafik Belghali, the Algeria international right-back currently at Hellas Verona, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Venezia. The 24-year-old, who also holds Belgian nationality, has emerged as a target as Venezia look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Belghali is under contract with Verona until 30 June 2029 and is valued at around €12m, meaning any deal would likely require a significant outlay from Venezia if talks progress. Verona, now competing in Serie B, signed the defender from Belgian club KV Mechelen in August 2025 for a fee of €2m, and his development since then has considerably increased his valuation.

The Leuven-born full-back has already gained top-flight experience in Italy, making 26 Serie A appearances for Verona and scoring twice. His performances have also carried over to the international stage, where he featured in all four of Algeria’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, playing the vast majority of minutes and contributing one goal.

Belghali previously made his name in Belgium with Lommel SK and KV Mechelen, building a reputation as a right-sided defender capable of contributing in the final third, with goals and assists across league and play-off campaigns. His current deal places Verona in a strong negotiating position, and there is no indication yet that an agreement with Venezia is close, with the player remaining tied to the club for another three years.
