Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah is reportedly eager to leave Anfield this summer in pursuit of more consistent playing time, with Newcastle United emerging as a potential destination.
According to former Manchester United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, the 22-year-old English centre-back of Ghanaian descent is considering a move that would allow him to further his development.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown claimed that Quansah is looking to make the best decision for his career by seeking a club where he can feature more regularly.
Liverpool are expected to bring in a new central defender during the transfer window, adding further uncertainty to Quansah’s prospects.
The club is also facing questions over the future of Virgil van Dijk, whose contract expires in June, making defensive reinforcements a priority.
Brown, who has followed Quansah’s progress closely, believes the young defender has the potential to be a top player but must take the next step in his career.
“I picked Quansah out when he was in the youth team and always felt he had the makings of a top player,” Brown said. “He’s reached a certain level, but now he needs to push on again, and that means playing at the highest level regularly.
“With the options Liverpool have, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be a regular anytime soon, especially with the club looking to bring in more players in that position.
“If he has the opportunity to join Newcastle, I hear that’s what he wants. He knows what’s best for his career, and at this stage, that means playing every week.”
Quansah has made only 22 appearances for Liverpool this season, just ten of them being in the Premier League.
