Hervé Renard, the former coach of the Moroccan national team, shared a moment of reunion with two of his former Atlas Lions players during the Gulf Cup in Qatar. The tournament, running from November 24 to December 6, brought the French coach together with former captain and central defender Medhi Benatia, as well as midfielder M’Bark Boussoufa.
Although both players have retired from international duty with Morocco, they remain active at club level. Benatia currently plays for Al-Duhail (formerly Lekhwiya) in Qatar, while Boussoufa joined Al-Sailiya in August 2019. Their reunion with Renard highlights the continued connection between the coach and his former players, reflecting the strong bonds formed during their time with the Atlas Lions.
Renard, now at the helm of the Saudi Arabian national team, will lead his side in Group B of the Gulf Cup, facing Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The gathering of past teammates and coach in Qatar adds a personal touch to the competition, bridging past successes with present ambitions on the regional stage.
