Pyramids FC star Abdel Raouf Zico targets Egyptian Premier League title
Pyramids FC forward Mostafa Abdel Raouf Zico has set his sights on winning the Egyptian Premier League title, hoping the outcome of Sunday’s showdown between Al Ahly and Zamalek will work in his side’s favour.
Al Ahly and Zamalek are scheduled to face each other at Cairo International Stadium at 8:00 pm on Sunday in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League, with the highly anticipated encounter expected to have an impact on the early title race.
Pyramids currently lead the standings with 15 points, while Zamalek sit second with 13 points, ahead of third-placed Al Ahly on goal difference.
Zico, however, insists his team’s priority is to maintain its winning momentum and focus on its own matches rather than become distracted by the contest between their title rivals.
Speaking to MBC Egypt 2, the Egyptian forward stressed that the league campaign remains at an early stage, with plenty of football still to be played.
“We are very focused on Pyramids. The league is a long tournament, and we have only played five rounds so far. In the next round, we will have a tough match against Ceramica Cleopatra,” he said.
The striker underlined the importance of securing victory against Ceramica Cleopatra, insisting that Pyramids must approach every fixture with the same determination as they pursue their ambition of lifting the league trophy.
“We want to achieve victory over Ceramica Cleopatra in the next round, and we have no problem with any result in the summit match, as our focus is only on taking each match separately,” Zico added.
Despite his emphasis on concentrating on Pyramids’ own performances, Zico admitted that he hopes the result of the Al Ahly-Zamalek clash will benefit his side’s title ambitions.
“Besides that, we have direct confrontations with our rivals, and God willing, we can do something good this season and win the title. We hope that the result of the summit will be in our favour,” he stated.
Zico also cautioned against making predictions about Sunday’s derby, describing such encounters as unpredictable affairs in which luck can play a decisive role.
“I don’t know for sure. Summit matches are always unpredictable; they depend on whichever team is lucky, and it is not always the best team that wins,” he said.
With Pyramids sitting at the top of the table, the club will be determined to maintain its advantage as the battle for the Egyptian Premier League title intensifies.
For Zico and his teammates, the immediate focus remains on defeating Ceramica Cleopatra and continuing their push for a historic league triumph, while the outcome of the Al Ahly-Zamalek showdown could provide an additional boost to their campaign.
