Pyramids FC and Sagrada Esperança clash in CAF Champions League Group D opener

Excitement is building in Cairo as Pyramids FC prepare for their first appearance in the Intercontinental Cup.

The African champions will represent Egypt on the global stage after FIFA confirmed the full schedule of matches for the second edition of the tournament.

Pyramids FC will open the competition on Sunday, September 14, at the Air Defense Stadium, where they will face New Zealand’s Auckland City FC, the champions of Oceania. Fans are already looking forward to seeing their team showcase African football against the club from the Pacific.

According to FIFA’s statement, the winner of this clash will go on to meet Al-Ahli Jeddah on Tuesday, September 23, at Al-Inma Stadium. The Saudi side are the AFC Champions League winners and their meeting promises to spark strong Arab interest in the tournament.

Beyond this, Mexico’s Cruz Azul will play the Copa Libertadores winner on December 10 in the Derby of the Americas. The eventual winner will challenge for the Challenge Cup and earn a place against Paris Saint-Germain in the grand Intercontinental Cup final on December 17.
