Fresh off their historic CAF Champions League triumph, Egyptian side Pyramids are officially locked in for their first-ever Intercontinental Cup appearance.
FIFA has confirmed the club’s participation in the revamped global tournament as Africa’s representatives.
Pyramids will host Oceania champions Auckland City on Sunday, September 14, at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo. The winner of that clash will move on to face Saudi giants Al Ahli at Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah on Thursday, September 23.
The tournament’s structure will then see the victor of that fixture square off in the semifinals with the winner of Cruz Azul and the South American champions in Qatar on December 13. Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning French champions, await in the final scheduled for Wednesday, December 17.
Meanwhile, Pyramids Club CEO Engineer Mamdouh Eid has flown to the UAE to coordinate the team’s pre-season arrangements. In Abu Dhabi, he will meet with the club’s board to finalize plans for the upcoming campaign, balancing domestic duties and the prestigious Intercontinental Cup challenge ahead.
