Pyramids FC is pressing for a new date for their crucial Egyptian League clash against Ceramica Cleopatra, originally set for 28 May.
The club has officially asked the League of Clubs to postpone the game, citing its packed African Champions League final schedule.
Representing Egypt in the prestigious continental competition, Pyramids face South Africa’s Sundowns in a two-legged final on 24 May and 1 June. With the first leg taking place in Pretoria on 19 May and their return on 25 May, the club argues that playing the league decider three days later is unrealistic.
“It is unbelievable that on May 28, just 48 hours later, we will be playing a league play-off game and just 72 hours before the second leg of the Champions League final,” Pyramids stated in their letter.
Pyramids expressed hope that the League will recognize the importance of supporting an Egyptian club on the brink of continental success.
Currently, Al Ahly leads the league with 49 points, two ahead of Pyramids, as the title race heads into the final three games.
