Pyramids FC proposes changes to CAF Award voting
Pyramids FC has sparked an important conversation about the way the CAF, Africa’s football governing body, selects winners for continental awards.
During the CAF Awards event in Rabat, Morocco, club president Mamdouh Eid spoke with CAF president Patrice Motsepe, expressing concern that clubs are not appropriately recognized in the voting system. He proposed a new approach for future awards, suggesting that club captains and coaches should participate in the vote, not just national team representatives.
Motsepe admitted that the current system could be unfair to clubs, relying only on national teams’ input, and promised to consider a new, more balanced method. Sources indicate that CAF may implement these changes in time for next year’s award ceremony to increase transparency and involve the broader football community.
Pyramids’ request comes after their remarkable season, winning the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup, and confirming their growing influence. Their achievements highlighted the need for more club involvement in continental decisions and could change how excellence is recognized across Africa.
This proposal has received wide support and could mark a fresh chapter in African football, with clubs playing a bigger role in shaping its future.
