Pyramids FC’s preseason preparations hit a rough patch after winger Mahmoud Abdel-Hafiz Zlaka was forced off early in a friendly clash against Turkey’s Bandırma Spor.
The CAF Champions League holders, currently in Türkiye for their training camp, had to make a quick change just 15 minutes into the match, with Fagri Lakay replacing the injured Zlaka.
Team manager Krunoslav Jurcic didn’t hesitate with the substitution, prioritizing the player’s condition over the flow of the game. The club’s head of medical staff, Dr. Mostafa El-Meniri, later confirmed that the winger felt discomfort in his hamstring.
“The initial diagnosis is a tight hamstring,” Dr. El-Meniri stated. “Zlaka will undergo an X-ray within 48 hours to confirm the nature of the injury and determine the necessary treatment plan.”
Despite the setback, Pyramids ended the first half with something to cheer about, thanks to a goal from Dodo El-Gabbas. As fans await Zlaka’s scan results, the club hopes the injury won’t sideline one of their key attacking options for long.
