Pyramids FC confident of life after DR Congo star Fiston Mayele

Pyramids FC assistant coach Mohamed Nagy Gedo believes the club has enough quality within its squad to overcome the departure of striker Fiston Mayele, insisting that the team is capable of moving forward despite losing one of its most influential players.

Mayele’s exit marked the end of an important chapter for Pyramids, with the Tanzanian forward playing a decisive role in the club’s recent success. His goals in crucial fixtures, particularly in high-pressure matches and finals, made him one of the most important figures in the team.

However, Geddo insists Pyramids will not allow the striker’s departure to disrupt their ambitions, as the club continues to rely on the strength and depth of its current squad while also exploring options for a replacement.

“We are still looking for his replacement, but we have a distinguished group of strikers. We have Mostafa Zico, Awda Al-Fakhoury, and Marwan Hamdi, and we are capable of compensating for Mayele’s departure,” Geddo said.

The Pyramids assistant coach admitted that replacing a player of Mayele’s influence will not be simple, but believes the club has the right personnel to share the responsibility and maintain their competitive level.

“Certainly, Mayele was an influential player. He made history for himself and the club, and he scored in every final and decisive match, but in the end, this is football. No player stays at a club forever,” he added.

Mayele’s ability to deliver when it mattered most made him a fan favourite and a key component of Pyramids’ rise in Egyptian and African football. However, Geddo believes the striker’s decision to seek a new challenge should be respected.

“He prefers to have another experience, and there is no problem with that. We are capable of compensating for him,” he said.

Despite losing their leading attacking figure, Geddo revealed that Pyramids have maintained the core of the squad that achieved success in previous seasons, with no major departures apart from Mayele.

“We have good players. None of them have left except for Mayele, but the rest of the team is continuing and they are the ones who achieved the previous accomplishments,” he explained.

The assistant coach also dismissed concerns that rivals Al Ahly’s transfer activity could put pressure on Pyramids ahead of the new season, insisting that the club remains focused on improving itself rather than competing in the transfer market.

“Not at all. On the contrary, we only look at ourselves, and I think we don’t need many signings,” Geddo said.

According to Geddo, the continuity within the squad gives Pyramids confidence that they can continue competing for major honours under head coach Rulani Mokwena.

While the club continues searching for an attacking reinforcement to fill the gap left by Mayele, the coaching staff believes the existing options, combined with the team’s strong foundation, can help Pyramids maintain their ambitions.

“God willing, in the new season we can achieve our ambitions,” Geddo concluded.

With confidence in their squad depth and a clear plan to adapt after Mayele’s departure, Pyramids are determined to prove that their success was built on more than one player as they prepare for another challenging campaign.
