Pyramids FC coach Rulani Mokwena hands players break after extending winning run
Pyramids FC technical director Rulani Mokwena has given his players a break from group training following their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League.
The South African tactician opted to allow the squad some time to rest after another positive result that maintained the club’s perfect start to the league campaign.
Pyramids secured all three points in their eighth-round encounter, recording an eighth consecutive victory to remain at the summit of the Egyptian Premier League standings with 24 points.
Mahmoud Saber opened the scoring for the hosts in the 11th minute with an impressive left-footed effort from outside the penalty area, sending the ball beyond the reach of the Wadi Degla goalkeeper.
The visitors responded through Ahmed Abdeen, who restored parity with a header after connecting with a delivery from the right flank following a free-kick situation.
Wadi Degla came close to taking the lead when Ziad Osama struck the post after another dangerous cross from the right, but the visitors failed to capitalise on the opportunity.
Pyramids eventually regained the advantage in the 58th minute through Mustafa Zico, who finished a low cross from the left with a left-footed effort to secure the victory.
Following the result, Mokwena decided to give his players a short break from collective training, with the squad scheduled to return to work on Saturday to begin preparations for their next assignment.
Pyramids will switch their attention to the Egypt Capital Cup, where they are scheduled to face Smouha next Tuesday at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.
The club will then prepare for a crucial Egyptian Premier League showdown against defending champions Al Ahly on November 23 at Cairo International Stadium, following the international break.
Pyramids currently lead the league standings with 24 points from eight matches, maintaining a four-point advantage over second-placed Al Ahly.
Meanwhile, Wadi Degla remain in 14th position with seven points after suffering another setback in their league campaign.
Mokwena will be hoping his team maintains its impressive momentum as Pyramids seek to sustain their title challenge and extend their winning run in the coming fixtures.
