Pyramids FC and Ramadan Sobhi consider legal action against Egyptian Football Federation president

Ramadan Sobhi

Pyramids FC and their Egyptian international winger Ramadan Sobhi are considering legal action against the President of the Egyptian Football Federation, Gamal Allam, following allegations of a positive doping test.

The controversy unfolded when Allam made statements to Radio On Sport, claiming that Pyramids FC player Ramadan Sobhi had tested positive for doping, citing a letter received from the World Anti-Doping Organization.

However, Hani Saeed, the sports director of Pyramids Club, expressed dismay over Allam’s remarks, labeling them as “irresponsible” and “misleading.” Saeed accused Allam of initiating a “systematic campaign” against Sobhi and Pyramids Club.

Saeed criticized Allam for breaching confidentiality obligations and defaming Sobhi without waiting for the facts to be established.

He emphasized Allam’s role in protecting players and preserving the integrity of the sport, suggesting that the President of the Football Federation had failed in his duties.

Furthermore, Saeed disclosed that Sobhi intends to pursue legal recourse against Allam, asserting the player’s right to defend his reputation and integrity.

In response to the allegations, an anonymous club source provided insights into the incident, stating that an argument ensued between Sobhi and the doctor during the doping test after a continental match.

The source clarified that while the first sample was destroyed, the second sample remained sealed, pending explanation within 14 days.

The club intends to address the issue formally, highlighting Sobhi’s clean record in previous doping tests and refuting claims of a positive result.

The source underscored that there is no evidence to support allegations of doping and pledged to pursue legal action against anyone spreading false information.

Ramadan Sobhi, a 27-year-old Egyptian international winger, boasts an impressive career with 37 selections for his country.

Despite his absence from the national team since AFCON 2021, Sobhi continues to make significant contributions to Pyramids FC, having played 15 matches across all competitions this season and scoring one goal.
