Pyramids face internal tension over Chibi's future

A growing disagreement has emerged between Pyramids FC management and Croatian head coach Krunoslav Jurčić over the future of Moroccan international right-back Mohamed Chibi, as discussions continue over the coach’s contract renewal ahead of the new season.

Per sources, Pyramids are actively working to extend Jurcic’s tenure at the club, with the coach’s current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign. Recent internal meetings were held to evaluate the team’s direction and the conditions surrounding a potential extension.

However, negotiations have been complicated by the coach’s stance on squad restructuring. While Jurčić has not rejected the idea of renewing his contract, he is understood to have outlined several conditions tied to his continued stay, including significant changes to the playing squad.

At the centre of the dispute is the future of Mohamed Chibi, with the coach reportedly pushing for the player’s departure as part of his proposed overhaul. The Croatian manager is said to have expressed repeated concerns about the defender’s tactical discipline, with frustrations stemming from disagreements during matches and training sessions throughout the season.

Jurčić’s assessment is believed to be based on the view that Chibi has not consistently followed tactical instructions, prompting the coach to question his long-term role in the system. This position has created tension within the club hierarchy, particularly given Chibi’s importance to the squad.

Club decision-makers, however, are resistant to the idea of letting the Moroccan international leave. Chibi is widely regarded as one of Pyramids FC’s most influential performers, both domestically in the Egyptian league and in continental competitions, where his consistency and experience have made him a key figure in the team’s defensive setup.

Pyramids FC officials are said to strongly disagree with the coach’s demand to offload multiple players, especially one of the squad’s established leaders. Despite the differing views, no final agreement has been reached between both parties regarding the renewal conditions.

The situation leaves Jurčić’s future at the club uncertain, with ongoing discussions expected to determine whether a compromise can be reached or if deeper changes will be required ahead of the next season.
