Pyramids controlled 70% of possession during the opening stages of their Egyptian League Week 4 match against El Gouna, but the score remained 0-0 after 10 minutes as the visitors’ defence resisted a series of attacks.

Pyramids quickly established territorial control, with El Gouna defending in an organised shape and attempting to prevent their opponents from creating clear opportunities. Pyramids appealed for a penalty during the opening exchanges, but the referee waved play on.

Mohamed Chibi delivered a corner from the right, but El Gouna’s defence cleared the cross away from danger. Chibi then took another corner from the left, sending the ball across the area and beyond every player before it went harmlessly wide of the target.

A further left-sided corner produced Pyramids’ best chance of the early period. Chibi’s delivery found Eyad El Askalany, whose header flew over the crossbar.

Pyramids continued to threaten from open play. Mostafa Fathi produced an impressive individual run before shooting from inside the penalty area, although his effort went wide. Ahmed Atef also tried his luck from inside the box, but his shot struck a defender and ended safely in the hands of El Gouna goalkeeper Islam Risha.

Fathi was later caught offside after taking up an advanced position behind the El Gouna defensive line. Pyramids won a further corner from the right, with Chibi’s cross eventually being cleared with difficulty towards the middle of the pitch.

The home side also earned a free-kick in the defensive half after Ahmed Atef was fouled. Another free-kick was awarded after Mohand Lasheen was brought down, allowing Pyramids to restart possession from the central defensive area.

El Gouna’s players were forced to deal with sustained pressure, while Pyramids looked for a breakthrough through repeated crosses and set pieces. Despite their dominance of the ball, Pyramids were unable to turn their control into a goal.

Play was briefly stopped for a drinks break, allowing the players to take on fluids and recover their breath. The match then resumed with Pyramids in possession inside their own half.

El Gouna subsequently made their first substitution, which was forced by an injury concern. Play had stopped for treatment to David Simukonda, who appeared unable to continue. A second substitution was then made by El Gouna.

The match also featured the involvement of Alpha Touray, Wilfred Teko and Michael Ejembba, while Pyramids’ attacking and defensive efforts included Ahmed Abdel Kader, Mostafa Metwally, Mohamed Chibi, Ahmed Atef, Mostafa Fathi, Mohand Lasheen and Eyad El Askalany.

After Ahmed Abdel Kader shot from inside the penalty area, El Gouna defender Mostafa Metwally produced an excellent clearance off the goal line to prevent Pyramids from taking the lead.

Pyramids continued pressing in search of an advantage, but El Gouna maintained their defensive discipline. The score remained goalless as the visitors held firm against the pressure.
