Pyramids FC delivered a major statement in the title race with a commanding 3-0 victory over Al Ahly SC in the fourth round of the championship stage of the Egyptian Premier League, dealing a heavy blow to Al Ahly’s title ambitions.

The breakthrough came in the 71st minute after a costly defensive error from Al Ahly’s Yasser Ibrahim, which was punished clinically by Fiston Mayele, who slotted a low finish past goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir.

Al Ahly thought they had responded just minutes later when Achraf Bencharki set up Trezeguet inside the box for a finish, but the effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Pyramids doubled their advantage in the 78th minute through another devastating counterattack, with Mayele once again at the centre of it, racing through on goal before calmly lifting the ball over Shobeir to make it 2-0.

The victory was sealed deep into stoppage time when Karim Hafez converted from the penalty spot to complete a dominant performance.

The result moves Pyramids to 47 points in second place, while Al Ahly remain on 44 points in third, intensifying the pressure at the top of the table.

With the title race now finely balanced, Pyramids will be hoping for a favour from Al Ahly’s upcoming Cairo derby clash against Zamalek SC, as the battle for the league crown continues to heat up.
