South Africa defeated Egypt 1-0 in an international friendly at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October 2026, with Puso Dithejane scoring the only goal of a closely contested match.
The two sides were level at half-time after a goalless opening period. Egypt looked to create opportunities after the break, but South Africa struck on the counter-attack in the 51st minute.
Dithejane finished the move with his right foot to put the visitors ahead and give the Bafana Bafana the advantage.
Egypt responded by increasing the pressure. Omar Marmoush, Ibrahim Adel and their team-mates searched for an equaliser, but they were unable to find a way through the South African defence.
The hosts came close in the closing stages, when Adel’s effort hit the crossbar in the ninth minute of added time. Egypt continued to attack during the remainder of stoppage time, but South Africa held on to secure the win.
The Bafana Bafana therefore leave Cairo with a 1-0 victory, sealed by Dithejane’s second-half goal.
