Marino Pusic was included in Al Ahli’s travelling party for their AFC Champions League Elite meeting with Al Sadd, despite reports that he had been dismissed following Friday’s heavy defeat by Al Shabab.
Al Shabab recorded a 6-1 victory over Al Ahli in the Roshn Saudi League on Friday at SHG Arena in Riyadh. The result came in the 12th round of the competition.
Reports had claimed that Al Ahli’s management decided to remove Pusic from his position as head coach before the final whistle. Several managers were reportedly being considered as possible replacements.
However, Pusic travelled with the team to Doha, casting doubt on claims that he had been immediately dismissed.
Al Ahli are due to face Al Sadd on Monday, 02 November 2026, in the fourth round of the league phase of the AFC Champions League Elite. The match will take place after the squad’s journey to Qatar following the defeat by Al Shabab.
The Dutchman’s presence among the travelling delegation indicates that he remains in charge for the time being, although the club has not been reported as issuing a formal statement on his position.
Pusic took over as Al Ahli manager at the start of the current season, succeeding German coach Matthias Jaissle. He has since overseen 17 matches, recording 11 victories, five defeats and one draw.
Al Ahli will now prepare for the Al Sadd fixture with Pusic still leading the squad, after the 6-1 loss intensified speculation about his future.
