PSV rising star Sami Bouhoudane commits international future to Morocco
Highly rated young striker Sami Bouhoudane has chosen to represent Morocco national under-20 football team, turning down the opportunity to continue with the Netherlands national football team pathway.
The 18-year-old forward’s decision was confirmed on March 5 and widely reported by several football outlets, including renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. Bouhoudane opted to switch allegiance despite efforts from the Royal Dutch Football Association to retain him within the Dutch youth national team structure.
Born in the Netherlands to Moroccan parents, the young striker had previously represented the Netherlands at various youth levels. However, he has now committed his international future to Morocco, joining the development pathway of the Atlas Lions.
Bouhoudane is currently part of the youth system at PSV Eindhoven, where he has steadily progressed through the academy ranks since joining in 2018. The forward is regarded as one of the promising attacking prospects emerging from Dutch football and has continued to impress with his performances during the 2025 to 2026 season.
At youth level, he has delivered strong displays in the UEFA Youth League, scoring four goals in four appearances for PSV’s under-19 side. He has also featured for Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie, where he has found the net five times in twelve matches.
Known for his physical presence and sharp finishing, Bouhoudane is often described as a powerful and clinical striker capable of leading the line. His development has attracted attention from both national teams, making his final choice an important addition for Morocco’s youth setup.
The decision represents another success for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, which has increasingly focused on recruiting talented dual-nationality players developed in European academies. Bouhoudane follows a growing list of players from the Moroccan diaspora who have chosen to represent the Atlas Lions, including Ismael Saibari.
With his rapid progress and consistent scoring form, the PSV youngster is expected to play a key role in Morocco’s upcoming youth competitions as the federation continues to build the next generation of national team talent.
