Moroccan defender El Ouahdi set to leave KRC Genk next summer

Zakaria El Ouahdi has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, with growing interest from several top clubs following his standout season in Belgium.

Dutch side PSV Eindhoven have reportedly placed the Moroccan right-back at the top of their transfer wishlist as they prepare for the expected departure of Sergiño Dest this summer. Reports indicate that the Eredivisie club view El Ouahdi as the ideal replacement and are ready to push strongly for his signature.

The 24-year-old’s reputation has soared after an exceptional 2025–2026 campaign with K.R.C. Genk. He delivered an impressive return of 12 goals and five assists in 41 appearances, form that earned him the prestigious Ebony Shoe as the best African player in the Belgian Pro League, finishing ahead of Adam Zorgane and Raphael Onyedika.

Interest in the defender is not limited to the Netherlands. Clubs in Ligue 1 are also closely tracking his progress, with both Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille reportedly keen to bring him to France after his consistent performances in Belgium.

El Ouahdi’s rise has been swift and impressive. After claiming the Belgian Lion in 2025 and lifting the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, he has cemented his place in the national team, making his senior debut against Paraguay national football team earlier this year.

Having signed him for just €2.5 million three years ago, Genk now value the defender at around €15 million. With his contract running until 2028, the Belgian club remain in a strong negotiating position as interest intensifies in one of Europe’s most promising full-backs.
