PSG’s Achraf Hakimi speaks out over rape allegations
Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi has broken his silence regarding the rape accusations that have shadowed him since March 2023.
Speaking candidly on Canal+’s Clique, the 26-year-old Moroccan international addressed the allegations, their impact on his personal life, and the pressures of maintaining a career in professional football under intense scrutiny.
Hakimi firmly denied the accusations, stating: “I know that what I’m accused of is a lie. I know who I am.
I know that I haven’t done anything and that I would never do that.” Despite his insistence on his innocence, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office requested in early August that he be referred to the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court.
The PSG defender described the ordeal as deeply traumatic for himself and his family. “I have never been subjected to such harm.
It’s a deep wound for my family and my children. My children are still young; they don’t know the internet and they can’t read, but one day they will come across these kinds of accusations,” Hakimi explained.
He emphasised the personal toll that public scrutiny and false allegations have taken on his daily life.
Hakimi revealed that the experience has prompted him to make significant changes to his environment and personal circle.
“I’m exposed. Girls approach us. Blackmail; in the world of football, many people want to take advantage of us.
And if you’re not surrounded by the right people, that can lead to that kind of thing. I’ve changed a lot of things and people.
Now, my circle is so small that I don’t let anyone in anymore,” he said, highlighting the heightened vulnerabilities that come with fame in modern football.
Despite the legal and personal pressures, Hakimi said he maintains “peace of mind” and expressed gratitude to the authorities handling the investigation.
He affirmed his willingness to cooperate fully with the police throughout the process, acknowledging the rigorous scrutiny involved.
Regarding public statements issued by the complainant, Hakimi admitted they were a “great shock” but added that the reaction was unsurprising given his status as a high-profile footballer.
The Moroccan full-back also discussed the broader challenges faced by elite footballers, explaining that the combination of visibility, fame, and influence often exposes players to manipulation, exploitation, and false claims.
“This situation shows the dangers top-level players face. One has to be very careful about the people around you, and I’ve learned that lesson the hard way,” he said.
Hakimi’s appearance on Clique marks his first extensive public response since the allegations surfaced, offering insight into both the personal strain of legal proceedings and the ways elite athletes navigate life in the spotlight.
While the case is ongoing, the Paris Saint-Germain defender remains resolute in asserting his innocence and rebuilding a sense of security around his family and career.
