PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye weighs next step as Dortmund and Liverpool make their move

Ibrahim Mbaye’s future at Paris Saint-Germain is uncertain, with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool competing to sign the highly rated winger, according to L’Equipe.

Mbaye is regarded as one of the most promising players to have emerged from the Paris Saint-Germain academy. However, the club’s hierarchy has reportedly told the Senegal international that he should not expect significant playing time in the first-team squad this season.

That prospect has prompted Mbaye to seriously consider leaving Paris Saint-Germain in search of a club where he can take on greater responsibility and continue his development.

Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have both already outlined their sporting projects to Mbaye’s representatives. The German club has built a strong reputation for developing young players, making it an attractive potential destination for the winger.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have emphasised their ambitions and their ability to introduce young footballers gradually into top-level football. Both clubs are therefore positioning themselves as credible options should Mbaye decide that a move away from Paris is the best route for his career.

Despite the growing interest, Paris Saint-Germain have not set an asking price for Mbaye. That leaves the situation open to negotiations and could lead to a contest between Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool in the coming weeks as the transfer window continues to gather pace.

Mbaye’s situation could become one of the major stories to follow before the end of the transfer window. The two European clubs are preparing to compete for a player considered among the most promising prospects of his generation, while Paris Saint-Germain face a decision over whether to retain him or allow him to leave in pursuit of regular first-team opportunities.

Mbaye remains under contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 30 June 2028. His market value is estimated at 30m euros by Transfermarkt.

The winger earns 910,000 euros per year at Paris Saint-Germain, equivalent to 591,500,000 FCFA. With no departure fee currently established by the French club, the financial terms of any potential move remain unclear.

For Mbaye, the central issue is the prospect of playing time. Paris Saint-Germain have made clear that a prominent role may not be available to him this season, while Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have each presented pathways intended to support his progress.

The coming weeks will determine whether he stays in the French capital or takes up one of the opportunities being offered by his two suitors.
