Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly issued a warning to star forward Ousmane Dembele regarding the financial demands he has set as discussions over a new contract continue.
Dembele’s current deal at the Parc des Princes runs until the summer of 2028, but negotiations over an extension have already raised concerns within the club’s hierarchy.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi addressed the situation in comments to French broadcaster Canal Plus, stressing the club’s firm stance on its wage structure.
“We have a salary cap, as everyone knows,” Al-Khelaifi said, making it clear that the club is unwilling to compromise its financial framework.
According to Football magazine, Al-Khelaifi’s remarks came in response to questions about extending the French international’s contract, with the PSG president hinting that the club would reject any excessive financial demands put forward by the player’s representatives. He further underlined the club’s priorities by stating, “Ousmane Dembele is a legend at Paris Saint-Germain, but the club and the team are the most important things.”
Negotiations are expected to be prolonged, with no immediate resolution in sight, largely due to Dembele’s reported demands following what has been described as a historic season for PSG, which culminated in the club winning the sextuple.
Dembele has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence at Paris Saint-Germain after a difficult period at Barcelona that was plagued by injuries. Since rediscovering his best form in Paris, the French winger has gone on to win both the Ballon d’Or and The Best FIFA Men’s Player awards, further strengthening his position at the negotiating table.
