Serge Aurier Signs Permanent Deal with PSG: “A Great Source of Pride”
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the permanent signing of Ivorian international Serge Aurier on a four-year contract, securing the right-back’s services until June 2019. The announcement follows a season-long loan from Toulouse, during which PSG activated the option to buy.
Aurier, 22, expressed his joy at committing to the club he has supported since childhood. “I feel the same way I did when I arrived at the club last summer. It’s a great source of pride,” he told PSG’s official website. “I’m originally from the Paris region, so wearing the Paris Saint-Germain jersey is an honour for me. I’ve been a fan of this club since I was little.”
The former RC Lens and Toulouse player admitted he had a cautious start to life at the Parc des Princes but has since grown into his role. “I had a bit of a timid start to the season. Afterwards, I found myself, especially in terms of aggression. That’s perhaps what I do best,” he said. “We’re on the right track. If we win the league and the Coupe de France, it will be historic… Something big!”
Aurier’s signing comes off the back of a successful international campaign, having helped Ivory Coast lift the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in February. His performances, both for club and country, have drawn attention from major European clubs, including Barcelona.
But PSG have moved swiftly to tie him down, underlining their faith in the energetic and versatile full-back. The club shared the announcement on social media, welcoming the Ivorian as a full member of the squad with the hashtag #Aurier2019.
With PSG eyeing a domestic double and looking to make a deeper run in Europe next season, Aurier’s commitment comes as a timely boost to Laurent Blanc’s side.
