The Paris Saint-Germain of the past is a distant memory, as the current objective for the Ile-de-France club extends far beyond its status as one of the world’s biggest football clubs. Since its acquisition by the Qataris, PSG aims to become the richest club globally by 2016, surpassing the likes of Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United. The ambitious target is set at a revenue of 540 million euros for the 2016-2017 season.
While this goal may seem audacious, PSG has a strategic plan in place. The financial backing from Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and a recent partnership with the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) provide significant support. The club also plans to capitalize on TV rights, aiming to secure 90 million euros per season. Sponsorship deals with Nike, Emirates (25 million euros per year), and Ooredoo (13.5 million euros per year) further contribute to the revenue stream.
PSG’s strategy includes a focus on merchandising and ticketing. The marketing of VIP places, especially after the completion of renovation work on the Parc des Princes, is a key element in their ticketing strategy.
Combining these revenue streams with other income sources, Paris Saint-Germain aims to achieve its ambitious financial objective by 2016. The success of these plans will be revealed in due course.
