Rayan Cherki on the radar of PSG

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly preparing a move for Manchester City forward Rayan Cherki should the Premier League champions face severe sanctions following their ongoing financial case.

According to reports, PSG are closely monitoring the situation at the Etihad Stadium and could attempt to hijack the French international if Manchester City are forced to part ways with some of their key players.

Cherki, who also has Algeria roots is reportedly viewed as one of the players who could attract significant interest if City’s appeal against the financial verdict fails and potential sanctions trigger uncertainty around the club.

The 23-year-old joined City from Lyon in the summer of 2025 and is under contract until 2030. Since his arrival, he has established himself as one of the club’s most creative attacking players, impressing with his close control, vision and ability to create chances.

Cherki has also developed a productive understanding with Erling Haaland, further increasing his importance to Pep Guardiola’s side.

PSG’s reported interest would represent a revival of their previous pursuit of the Frenchman. Cherki was reportedly close to joining the Parisian club before Manchester City made their move for him.

However, PSG are not expected to have a free run at the midfielder. Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring the situation, while Real Madrid have previously shown interest in the France international.

The uncertainty stems from Manchester City’s ongoing legal battle over alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations. An independent commission recently ruled against the club following a lengthy investigation, while City have strongly rejected the findings and lodged an appeal.

The outcome of that appeal, along with any subsequent sanctions, could have major implications for City’s squad.

For now, Manchester City remain in a strong contractual position with Cherki tied to the club until 2030, meaning any potential suitor would likely have to make a substantial financial offer.

PSG, however, appear ready to monitor developments closely and could make their move if circumstances at the Etihad change.

A return to France would also give Cherki the opportunity to join PSG after previously coming close to making the move, although Manchester City are expected to fight to retain a player they regard as an important part of their long-term project.
