Laurent Blanc Praises Matuidi’s Evolution: “Ten Goals a Season Is Realistic”
At a press conference on Thursday, Laurent Blanc spoke highly of Blaise Matuidi, who impressed with a brace against Serbia in France’s recent friendly. The Paris Saint-Germain coach highlighted the midfielder’s development and reaffirmed his belief that Matuidi could reach double digits in goals this season.
“You can see his progress because he’s scored goals, that’s why everyone’s talking,” Blanc stated. “But if he hadn’t scored, maybe no one would mention it.”
The former Saint-Étienne player has evolved from a purely defensive presence into a more box-to-box threat, with Blanc emphasizing the physical drive that sets him apart.
“He scores because he wants to. He pushes into the box. He has that ability, physically, to do it—unlike others. That’s where he makes the difference,” the coach explained.
Blanc also pointed out that this surge in goalscoring isn’t a fluke, referencing past seasons where Matuidi contributed goals consistently.
“Last year and the year before, he was already scoring. When I said he’d get to 10 goals a season, people laughed. But if he keeps this up, he’ll do just that.”
With four goals already this season across club and international matches, Matuidi is well on pace to fulfill his coach’s prediction, underlining his continued growth as a dynamic and essential figure in PSG’s midfield.
